An Interview with Mr. Adnan Oktar by The Middle East Press Agency (Egypt) (September 6, 2008)
September 2008
In this interview Mr.Adnan Oktar has stated that Islam is not compatible with terror in any condition and that it is the ignorance of the people claiming such, that causes such false accusations. He stated that the very core goal of Islam religion is love, the love of and the fear from Allah. Mr.Oktar depicted that terror could have no place in Islam while it demands people to forgive even murder. Stating that such a claim can only be a forced, atrocious slander put forward by the masons, Mr.Oktar said that such claims do have no scientific nor logical reason behind.
Mr. Oktar touched many different points as below during this interview;
“The provision regarding the people of the Book is set out clearly in the Qur’an and in the Sunna of our Prophet (saas). The people of the Book are our brothers; the Armenians, Jews, Orthodox and Protestants, the whole Christian world, are our brothers. We all believe in the same Allah. Allah is the same Allah for the Jews, in the Christian world and in Islam. They all hold the same fundamental beliefs, which is why the people of the Book are a blessing.”
“Erdoğan is a very sincere person. Muslims have been closely acquainted with Mr. Erdoğan for a very long time. He is an Anatolian, someone who is clearly entirely genuine. He has a very modest disposition. He is generally rational, peaceable, and in search of democracy. The negative rumors about him truly astound me, and I fail to understand why people say such things. I can say that he is really striving for democracy, and that if things continue like that it will be very good. Once there is no terror, no violence, to close a political party is really inappropriate and unnecessary. The essential thing is freedom of ideas. People must be free to express their ideas as they so choose.“
------------
- Mr. Adnan Oktar began to learn arts and then he took another attitude. How did this effect your vision about life in general? And how did everything start?
- I have enjoyed fine art ever since childhood. I always liked the house to be tidy, attractive people and beautiful things.
.. Beautiful flowers, the beauty of animals, all beautiful things, produce a very powerful, delightful effect in my soul.
.. It is because it is a manifestation of Allah, of course, that it produces such a pleasant effect in my soul.
.. That is why I came third in the exams, despite not having much training in the fine arts. I was very talented when it came to painting.
.. I came third out of some 20,000 people. Then in ’83 I transferred to the Istanbul University Philosophy Department.
.. I had long been interested in philosophy, too, so it was a good move in that respect.
.. I made a lot of use of it in my own philosophical enquiries at that time.
- Is there a connection in between your philoshopy education and your stand against Darwin’s Theory?
- No, because I had already received Darwinist education at high school. Darwinist education was provided at university and at the academy.
.. Darwinism was powerfully taught at the Philosophy Department. But I was involved in anti-Darwinist activities at both.
.. I used to give my teachers books at the academy, anti-Darwinist books. They would read them and we would discuss them.
.. That had a very positive effect. There was a famous philosopher and poet by the name of Hilmi Yavuz.
.. I gave him such a book about Darwinism. He read it, and a serious change took place in his life.
.. He is now someone who believes in Allah and I see writings by him saying he does not believe in Darwinism, so it has had a very positive impact.
.. There was a teacher called Ercüment Tarcan and I gave him a copy.
.. He went to far as to say, ‘If human beings make one single cell I will throw myself out of this window.’
.. I did not want him to throw himself out of the window, but that is what he said. He was also very much influenced and changed.
.. That of course further reinforced my determination in my struggle against Darwinism, by which I mean the situation in the schools.
.. I mean the way that Darwinism was so supported despite being a false theory at a complete dead-end,
.. a theory lying at the root of Marxism and fascism, further enhanced my determination. So it was very useful from that point of view.
- Why did you choose to use Harun Yahya pen name?
- Harun and Yahya were both the assistants of prophets.
.. I took the names Harun and Yahya as a helper of our Prophet (saas), as a brother of the companions on his path,
.. and in remembrance of these two people who helped the faith. Harun, as you know, was the assistant of the Prophet Musa, and Yahya of the Prophet Jesus.
.. There is even an account of our Prophet (saas) in which he tells the blessed Ali, ‘You are like Harun was to Musa.’
.. That means that our Prophet (saas) regarded his help in that light at that time, and I adopted the name in that sense.
- Alright what do you think about the return of Caliphate in Islam? Do you think that caliphate would be appropriate in the modern lifestyle of today?
- Rather than a caliphate, the whole Islamic world gathering around a single leader, if that is what is meant then one can indeed refer to the caliphate,
.. but there is no great need to refer to a caliph as such. This will be the spiritual leader of the Muslim world. Muslims had a leader since very ancient times.
.. But only Christians have a leader now. They have the Pope. But Muslims have no leader. But they should of course have a spiritual leader.
.. But this does not mean the whole Islamic world being ruled by the caliphate.
.. All Islamic countries can be governed by their own normal, free national administrations. Turkey is governed by its own normal administration, for instance.
.. Azerbaijan has its own administration, but all Muslims living there still need a spiritual leader.
.. This is not a political leader, but a spiritual one, but we should not really use the term caliph, we should really speak of a spiritual leader.
- Taking all these differences in between the Muslim states of today, can this leader you anticipated unite the Islamic countries in this respect?
- Of course, because this will be a leader in terms of love, affection, compassion and friendship. These things are people’s most basic needs.
.. I can say they are even more essential than food and drink. The important thing is a leader in these terms.
.. People must be governed with love, affection, compassion and friendship. A leader in those terms will be a very powerful individual.
- Okay. When you consider the Islamic leaders of our day, do you think they will accept this opinion?
- They will have to, because the world will descend into an utter confusion otherwise, it will head toward destruction.
.. Terror and bloodshed, pains and suffering are all over the world. Such a leader will obviously not be against the Islamic world.
.. Something has to be against one if one is to reject it. This will obviously be hugely in its favor.
.. Having a leader in terms of love and brotherhood, a spiritual leader, is not against the interests of any Islamic country.
.. In other words, one would have to have no links to religion in order to reject this. The Pope, for instance, is a spiritual leader, not a political one.
.. If Christians have such a leader, why should Muslims not have one?
- Okay then what can you say about the accusations stating that Islam is a religion related with terrorism, a religion that disseminates terror?
- This stems from the ignorance of the people saying it. The aim of religion is love. It is love of Allah, fear of Allah, love and brotherhood.
.. Allah tells us we must even forgive murder. How can terror have any place in such a faith? This is a very twisted slander put about by the Masons.
.. But words of that kind from ignorant people can travel about from here to there, though they are of no scholarly or logical value.
- What are your opinions about the dialogues in between religions?
- The provision regarding the people of the Book is set out clearly in the Qur’an and the Sunna of our Prophet (saas).
.. The people of the Book are our brothers; the Armenians, Jews, Orthodox and Protestants, the whole Christian world, are our brothers.
.. We all believe in the same Allah. Allah is the same Allah for the Jews, in the Christian world and in Islam. They all hold the same fundamental beliefs,
.. which is why the people of the Book are a blessing.
.. In other words, it is a blessing that are the people of the Book rather than irreligious or being members of some other heretical movement.
.. This is perfectly reasonable and not something to make Muslims uneasy. Allah confirms the existence of the people of the Book in the Qur’an.
.. They will do good things, and Muslims will do good things.
.. One can live together with them as brothers, met and talk with them, eat and drink with them and even marry Christian or Jewish girls;
.. they are people one can have entirely normal social relations with. They are also trustworthy people.
.. If a woman or someone is married and has children and lives with them, that means a very powerful love and friendship.
- I would like to ask you about your opinions on the latest political status in Turkey at the present day.
.. What did you think about the court case on the closure of AK Party and do you see Erdoğan as the future leader of Turkey?
- Erdoğan is a very sincere person. Muslims have been closely acquainted with Mr. Erdoğan for a very long time.
.. He is an Anatolian, someone who is clearly entirely genuine.
.. He has a very modest disposition. He is generally rational, peaceable and is in search of democracy.
.. The negative rumors about him truly astound me, and I fail to understand why people say such things.
.. I can say that he is really striving for democracy, and that if things continue like that it will be very good.
.. Once there is no terror, no violence, to close a political party is really inappropriate and unnecessary.
.. The essential thing is freedom of ideas. People must be free to express their ideas as they so choose.
.. Parties must also express ideas of all kinds. But of course a party must be closed down if it becomes involved in terror and violence.
.. That is perfectly reasonable. But there is nothing like that in the AKP [ruling Justice and Development Party].
.. It has no violent side, and the Constitutional Court saw no need to close it down.
- I would also like to learn about your opinions about the things going on in Iran, Palestine and Lebanon and about the war going on in these lands.
- These are all portents of the coming of the Mahdi. Portents of the return of the Prophet Jesus. They are glad tidings that may seem to be evil.
.. They are all for the best. They are means whereby there will be greater unity and union in the Muslim world.
.. It doesn’t even appear to be evil, because there is good in everything, and there is a great good in these as well.
.. Our Prophet (saas) has set out in the hadith that Afghanistan will be occupied in the time of the Mahdi, before the coming of the Prophet Jesus.
.. Our Prophet (saas) says that Iraq will be invaded, even that it will be invaded by foreign countries, that they will enter Iraq under a number of banners.
.. It is also stated in great detail that Baghdad will be ruined. He says the waters of the Euphrates will be severed, and they really have been, by a dam.
.. And that was carried in the papers under headlines reading ‘The waters of the Euphrates have been stopped.’
.. The accounts, the hadith, also state that there will be war between Iran and Iraq. Our Prophet (saas) has also said that.
.. All these events of the End Times have been described in great detail.
.. All these things described are very important reasons for Muslims to be more aware, and stronger, and to love one another more and to have more takwa.
.. Troubles and afflictions strengthen and educate Muslims and are instrumental in their having more faith and more takwa,
.. and they are created with great wisdom and all for the best. These are things that have come into being with great wisdom and for the best.
- Okay, I want to ask about your point of view about Freemasonry as my last question?
- I am of course in favor of all associations enjoying freedom of thought and activity.
.. But secrecy is unacceptable; in other words, things done in a sly manner are unacceptable.
.. Masonic secrecy should be lifted and brought out into the open. The correct thing would be for them to enter into a discussion of ideas,
.. for them openly to declare all kinds of ideas, and for contrary opinions to be expressed. Yet individually, on a personal basis, Masons are quality people.
.. But I am opposed to their ideas, to their being Darwinists. Because Darwinism is now a theory that has totally collapsed.
.. Any rational person will sit and think, and say that there are a hundred millions fossils that have been unearthed,
.. that none of these hundred million fossils have changed, and since they have never changed
.. and since there are absolutely no transitional fossils of the kind claimed by Darwinists, evolution therefore never happened,
.. and that is a highly practical outcome. They must say this, and it is amazing that they do not, but they appear unwilling to speak.
.. Whereas they should be open to ideas and espouse freedom of discussion and ideas,
.. and Masons should normally be in favor of the invalidity of Darwinism being taught in schools.
.. Because Darwinism should be taught, but so should the opposite view.
.. It should be explained and people be allowed to see that it is a superstitious belief left over from the ancient Sumerians, a Shamanist religion, a pagan faith.
.. I criticize Masons in that sense, but in other senses they behave very well in many other ways. But their materialist/atheist ideas are very wrong,
