This program contained an evolutionist claim concerning the iguana, which lives on the Galapagos Islands. A female biologist expressed this in the following terms:
"There is a theory that sea iguanas are the evolved state of land-dwellers millions of years ago. It is thought that land iguanas came here for the plant cover or that land iguanas which hatched from eggs on the Galapagos Islands underwent evolution and became adapted to life in the sea."
According to this idea, the ancestors of the green iguanas may have lived on land. There is such a belief.
As we can see, the researcher in question emphasizes that this is an assumption. This may represent progress for Animal Planet, since for the first time in one of its programs it has abandoned its efforts to portray evolutionist assumptions as if they were scientific facts. We trust that this will continue in subsequent broadcasts.
To deal with the claim itself, the transition in question here (consisting of a mere assumption) is not an evolutionary turning point. Iguanas are still iguanas. There is no question of the acquisition of new organs or characteristics as required by the common ancestor.
